Reiki

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen

Reiki is one of the ancient healing arts using the laying on of hands. The term comes from the Japanese words for universal consciousness (rei) and the life force (ki). Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in the 1900s, but the ability to heal is an innate human potential.

Ki, or life energy, flows through all living things by way of the energy centers in the body such as the chakras and meridians. It nourishes the body and keeps us feeling healthy and vital. When the flow of ki is disrupted, dis-ease can result. Reiki practitioners are trained to focus and direct the life force for the well-being of the recipient. As Reiki flows through the body, it charges it with positive energy, raising the vibrational level of the physical body and clearing and healing energy pathways.

Reiki treatments are performed using a series of hand positions with the client fully clothed and lying on a massage couch. Some clients report feeling tingling, warmth, or other sensations during the treatment, while others simply feel more relaxed. Reiki is a safe, non-invasive healing treatment for people and pets.

I was initiated as a Reiki I practioner in Santa Cruz, California on August 11, 2001. On November 30, 2001, under a full, blue moon in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I received my Reiki II attunement from Reiki Master Kathy Beal, my stepmother. Reiki is traditionally passed down through the generations from master to student. My Reiki lineage was passed down through the following Masters:

  • Hawayo Takata
  • Iris Ishikuro
  • Aurthur Robertson
  • Glenda Rye
  • Karen Miller
  • C. Alexis Summerfield
  • Deborah M. Barber
  • Donna Groot
  • Katherine Rosemary O'Connell
  • Kathy Beal
  • Chandra Moira Beal

Testimonials

Here are some testimonials from clients that I have treated with Reiki:

Chandra, when you asked about my dog, Ivory, I couldn't see any difference in her at that time, but yesterday something happened that never did before. Elliot (my son) and Ivory were comfortably laying down together with Elliot caressing her. Ivory has always been friendly to Elliot but not comfortable with being near him. It amazed and impressed me.

That is a tremendous difference in a relationship that has not otherwise changed in 3 years. Thank you.

Thank you for performing Reiki on me both before and after my sinus surgery.  As you know, I was having a lot of pre-surgical anxiety.  After you worked with me on that night before my surgery, I felt calm, relaxed, even peaceful.  I took a hot bath, went to bed, and had a restful night¹s sleep, when for weeks or more before that, I had been waking up frequently in the night due to my sinus problems. I expected to sleep even less that night due to my anxiety, but in fact I slept peacefully and did not wake up once. The next morning, as we drove to the hospital, I was rested, and a sense of calm remained with me all morning, right up to when I was anesthetized. When I awoke in the recovery room, I was asked to rate my pain level on a scale of 1 to 10, to which I replied ³zero².  In the first couple of days after my surgery, I was experiencing some discomfort (yet still no pain), and I slept in fits and starts. When you came back and provided another Reiki treatment, I was able to doze peacefully afterwards and get some needed rest.

In addition, I appreciate the treatment you provided my cat, Spike, after her surgery.  Spike can be fussy about being handled, so I was concerned that she might not be comfortable with someone she did not know very well putting their hands on her, especially since she was still recovering.  However, she seemed very content to have you touch her, and remained quite comfortable, throughout the process.  I was surprised and impressed!  She also seemed very content and peaceful afterwards.

As someone who did not know much about Reiki and wasn’t sure what to expect from it, I can tell you that I have been more than pleased with the results, and would recommend it to anyone, for themselves or their pet.

I just wanted to let you know what has happened since your visit with my golden retriever, Jake, yesterday. (Jake had previously suffered a stroke.) After you left, my son and I carried Jake upstairs to sit outside in the sun. He started fussing a little bit and started trying to move his back legs. After struggling and struggling he managed to get into a ‘sphinx’ position and rolled himself over to the other side for the first time.  Also, he has been much more alert and seems to be in much better spirits. I think your treatment really helped. Thanks so much!

Chandra has the capacity to care very deeply for each and every one of the animals she works on; an example of just one of the many qualities that make her outstanding in her process. I have rescued and now foster several animals with behavioral and physical challenges of one sort or another, and I have seen them all improve in health and well being through the work that she has done for them.

Her rabbit companion, Maia, is the most relaxed and well-adjusted animal I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. Chandra is a Godsend.
